The Display gives you a clock and useful information about your system. The Display appears in the upper right hand corner of the screen in the menu bar.
There are four main items that can be included in the Display:
• Time: the current time.
• Date: the current date.
• Space Available on: the amount of free space on the specified hard drive.
• Disk Activity Indicator: indicates when information is being read from or written to a floppy drive or hard drive.
Hard drive accesses will appear as a hard drive and floppy drive accesses appear as a diskette. An up arrow indicates information is being read from the drive; a down arrow indicates information is being written to the drive.
Note: the disk activity indicator does not function on Power Macintosh models or machines running SCSI Manager 4.3.
You can customize the display:
1. Check the boxes next to the items you want displayed.
2. Select the time format you want from the choices under “Time.” If you want to see Hour: Minute: Second, check the “Seconds” box. If the box is left empty, the display will be Hour: Minute only. If you want to see AM or PM after the time, click in the “AM/PM” box. If you want a 24-hour clock (for example, 6:37 PM displays as 18:37) click in the “24-Hour” box. If you want a chime every hour select Hourly Chime Sound and choose the type of sound you want to hear using the pop-up to the right.
3. Check “Continuous Rotation” if you want the Display to continuously cycle through all the selected items. If you do this, select the box to the right and enter a number from 1 to 9. Each item will display for this specified number of seconds.
4. If you don’t select “Continuous Rotation,” the first display item you chose will remain fixed in the Display. Press Option and click on the menu bar itself to rotate through all the selected items.
5. Use the pop-up menus near the bottom of the panel to adjust the Display font and font size.
 
If the current date or time are incorrect, open the Date and Time panel in the Control Panels folder to correct them.
